Instruction manuals

Microsoft Agent will work on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP. It will work on Windows Vista but characters will use Microsoft Anna's voice instead of their own voice. Microsoft Agent does not work on Windows 7 unless the hotfix from the Microsoft website is installed.

Double Agent can also be downloaded and installed so that Microsoft Agent will be emulated (after hotfix is installed on Windows 7). Microsoft Agent will also work on Windows 8 and later, but will display colorful backgrounds around animated characters. Hotfix does not need to be installed on Windows 8 and later.

You can also use Microsoft Agent in a virtual machine (including VMware Workstation, Microsoft Virtual PC, or Oracle VirtualBox). In addition, using it in a VM will work perfectly without using an emulator. Microsoft Agent does not work on non-Microsoft operating systems such as Linux or Mac.

To install Microsoft Agent Core Components:

To use Microsoft Agent in a web browser, you will need Internet Explorer (4.0 and later) that supports ActiveX control. IE Tab needs to be installed in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or other web browsers in order for Microsoft Agent to work.

Note that Microsoft's text-to-speech engines have many mispronunciations problems compared to other text-to-speech engines.

Microsoft Speech Recognition Engine (version 4.0) allows you to speak to animated characters using a microphone. However, Microsoft Agent must be specifically programmed to understand and interact with what you are saying. Microsoft Agent does not support dictation. The installation is optional.

Microsoft Speech Control Panel shows you the list of installed text-to-speech engines.

And finally, there are Microsoft Agent characters that you can download on this website, including Merlin, Genie, Peedy, Robby, Office Assistants, Search Assistants, and many others.
